Hello Everyone~
I'm so sorry that i haven't had a chance to write about my experiences in a while. Once we left South Africa we had midterms to worry about and then we hit India. Then we only had 3 days in the ocean until we hit Malaysia. So i'm sorry about the missing blogs. I'm going to try and catch up on them now, so i hope that you enjoy...
So on the first day in South Africa i had two FDP's (there basically field trips that you have to take with your teachers, as a way to make the program more "educational") and they were actually really interesting. The first one was called "Authors in Cape Town" and its where 3 authors came onto the ship and talked about their books and talked about being a writer. It was actually really interesting and i really liked one of the guys' books so i bought it to read. Then i had another FDP that went to a Township and then to the District Six Museum. They were both life changing experiences...to see the way that the people live in complete poverty. But they were so happy. They had a reason to smile and talk to the visitors and it was the most amazing thing to see. I can't even really put it into words.
Then for the next 3 days, i went on my safari. Which is one of my favorite things that i've done so far on my trip. We cruised around for two days looking for animals and it was really fun. The only thing that kind of sucked was the fact that it rained the entire time. So i didn't get to see any cats because they were all hiding. But i did see a ton of giraffes, zebras, rhinos, one elephant, water buffalo, a ton of birds and so many trees and plants i can't even begin to explain haha. It was soooo much fun to see these animals up close and in their natural habitat. The giraffes and zebras would walk straight up to the car and it was so cool. I posted some pictures up on my blog, so i hope that you all enjoyed that.
Then when i got back after my safari i went to the top of Table Mountain, which is a huge mountain that looms over the entire city of Cape Town. It's amazing, but unfortunately when we got to the top it was soooooo cloudy that i couldn't see ANYTHING!!! Like literally NOTHING at all. So it was kind of sad, but i did get some really amazing pictures from the bottom of the mountain looking out over the city that were really good. So it wasn't a total lost. I absolutely LOVED Cape Town and it was my favorite port to this day. I definitely want to go back someday and i think that i will do everything in my power to be able to do that. It's a whole other world, in a whole other time, and it's amazing. I literally can't even put into words what this port meant to me. I hope that someday everyone will be able to experience what i experienced while i was in South Africa.
