So we've had a very interesting and not so good week. They say female flights come together rather quickly & start falling apart during week 5; well we are completely falling apart AND we never came together as a flight so I'm sure it's even worse. I'm starting to lose it here.
We start week 6 tomorrow which means that we leave for the BEAST on Monday. For those who've asked, the BEAST is basically a mock deployment. We have to erect and sleep in tents, we eat MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) for every meal. We have different tasks and things that we do during the day; example they have a mock Iraqi village with people dressed and speaking in the correct language. We have to safely secure a hostage and evacuate an injured airman. So we don't do fun things like that everyday, but you kind of get the picture. I guess a lot of people say it's kind of boring because we do the same things everyday. We also have to wear a 30lb bulletproof vest, a backpack, 2 canteens on a belt around our waist and a gas mask on our hip. So I hear a lot of people lose a ton of weight because of all of the activity and stress. I'm trying to have a positive attitude about it, but it's proving a little difficult.
So some of the things we did this week were K.P (kitchen patrol) duty on Monday... god that shit SUCKED!!! No kidding, we were up at 0215, started working at 0330 and weren't finished until 2030. We came back to the dorm showered and went immediately to bed. It was an exhausting day.
On Thurs we had our CPR class (the one I paid for was 10x better... I don't know if I would trust anyone here doing CPR on me, we'll just say that).
Then we learned how to put together the tents for the BEAST which turned into a disaster. So the BEAST is trainee run with instructors that oversee, but for the most part they let us run it. We got a dose of what that's going to be when we were putting the tents together. Let's just say there were WAY too many cooks in the kitchen and it was just a bunch of yelling and confusion... welcome to my flight.
We are shooting for BEAST excellence which is awarded to the flight with the most points... I hope we can just pull it together enough to win it. I'm starting to lose my mind here. We are together literally 24/7 and I'm starting to become a mean person. I snap at people all the time and seem to be losing patience instead of gaining patience. I'm hoping that these are just side effects of BMT and come with exhaustion, hunger, fatigue, and annoyance. God, I have a huge headache right now... ugh! Anyways, I can't wait to leave this place. I think that after BMT I will be glad and proud of what I've done and accomplished; but sitting here right now I can't remember why I came. I mean I do and I don't at the same time... basically I'm just WAY done with this place. Sorry this last week hasn't been the best so this letter might not be as chipper as the last one. I can't wait for some freedoms... to eat without a time limit and not have to get up hungry. To be able to snack and to get a little bit more sleep. What I would do to be able to just take a nap. There are so many simple things & freedoms that you miss while you're here. I can't believe we're almost 6 weeks in though... that's craziness.
On a lighter note we had a Xmas Exodus brief the other day. Mom, will you mind looking into flights for me. The dates are Dec 21st and we have to be back on Jan 2nd. We have to leave and return to base which is in Wichita Falls, TX. I don't know what the nearest airport is, but they did mention it as about an hour to an hour and a half bus ride. Thank you... I appreciate it & I'm sure you want me to come home for Xmas.
Well hopefully the BEAST will be ok and I'll come back in a way better mood than I'm in now. When we get back it will be a week & a half to graduation. YAY!!
I send my love, send me good thoughts and encouragement.
