One of the most beautiful places in the world...

Alright, so we are currently pulling out of the port in Walvis Bay, Namibia.  I'm sorry that i didn't get a chance to write in my blog earlier, but when you come home at 4am after clubbing...writing in your blog is the last thing on your mind. hehe I had the most WONDERFUL time here in this country.  It was the best so far (even though we've only been to two, it beats out Brazil for sure).  We got a little bit different perspective of this country as well, we got to see how the locals live...and now i will tell you the tale of Kara in Namibia. HAHA

Day 1-

We arrived in Namibia and decided that the first day we were just going to walk around Walvis Bay and see what the town was like and how everything was.  You've all seen tv and expect Africa to be like a wild animal zoo, with a couple of people living in huts or something.  Well that's what I naively thought. But to be honest, it looks like any other town in America with a few minor differences.  They have a KFC around the corner from the dock and local stores and gas stations and everything like that.  The national language is English so most signs are in English and there are just a lot of black people walking around. (88% of the population).  But they have world famous sand dunes that you can see from the top of the ship if you look out over the town.  It was amazing.  We walked around and went to a little convenience store where we bought a TON of snacks.  On the ship you only really get 3 square meals a day and if you want to buy snacks (candy really) you have a pay for it.  So we got crackers and cookies and little African candies.  Man a girl could go crazy around here with no snacks.  WHEW!!! thank goodness i'm stocked up now, i was about to eat Khaleelah, haha ok just kidding.  Moving on...we didn't really find much to do that night and we didn't want to be out after dark, considering it might not be completely safe, so we came back to the ship and didn't do a whole lot.

Day 2-

The second day we decided to go to Swacopmund which is a VERY German town about 40 km away from Walvis Bay.  It literally looks like they picked up a piece of Germany and stuck it in the middle of Africa.  It was crazy.  They had German architecture and German signs and most people were walking around speaking German.  It was insane.  But it's because the German's colonized Namibia and then the S.African's took over and Namibia only got it's independence about 18 years ago, so now it's a free country. YEA!!! haha It was a really nice place, we had lunch at a little German cafe and walked around a bit.  Then we had to try and get BACK to Walvis Bay and oh MAN that was a hassle.  We already got ripped off on the way to the town and now NO ONE would take us back for less than N$160 which is RIDICULOUS.  We payed N$40 on the way there, EACH and that was double what we should have been paying.  So we walked around forever and finally went into a hotel and asked them to call a taxi for us, it was a hassle, but thank goodness we made it back.  That night we decided to go out to dinner at a restaurant called Raft.  It's RIGHT on the water, i mean the restaurant is on stills sitting in the middle of the ocean.  It was about a 2 mile walk from the shift and we got to the ocean and the restaurant as the sun was setting, it was BEAUTIFUL.  So we had a nice dinner over the water.  The other 3 girls i was with got and shared a bottle of wine, we had nice full plates of food, all for only $35 US.  It was amazing and impressive, especially having a bottle of wine.  The exchange rate was AWESOME.  It was N$8.20 to $1 US.  Can't beat that!!!  We then met another girl from the ship named Tus (her real name is Tusvee, she's Indian, but everyone shortens it).  They were all heading to a nightclub called Champs and asked if we wanted to go.  We figured why not, there was a lot of SAS students there so it would be a little bit safer knowing a lot of people.  IT WAS SOOOOOO MUCH FUN!!!!  We got to try sooo many drinks, but we were good and didn't go overboard because neither one of us wanted to be hungover in the morning.  And then we just danced.  They played half Afrikaan music and half American music that i listen to everyday.  So i got the best of both worlds.  It was amazing and the best night we've had in any country.  Well while we were dancing we made friends with 4 local boys.  Their names are Harry, Pablo, Percy, and Sergio.  They are all best friends and they asked us if we wanted them to give us a REAL tour of the city.  So we said definitely, so on Sunday (Day 3) they drove us around EVERY where.  They showed us their favorite places to go and where to eat and took us to the beach, and to the sand dunes, and back to Swacopmund and showed us the fun things to do there.  They were SUCH gentlemen and didn't let us pay for anything.  It was so nice and refreshing after American boys.  We actually got to see how real Namibians live and what they do for fun and not just what tourists do.  It was sooo nice.  Well because the next day was Monday they had to go home a little earlier, but also because it was Sunday nothing was open. It's not like consumer America where everything's at least open for a little while on Sunday's....NOTHING was open.  So we just came back here and rested a little bit.

Day 4-

After the boys got off of work they came and picked us up.  We went out to dinner to a pizza place and actually had some really good thin crust pizza.  I had a vodka with lemonade with dinner and that was actually really tasty, i can't remember the name of it, but that's what it was called.  Then after that we went to another nightclub called the Cantina.  We were out until 4 in the morning dancing and trying different drinks, it was sooooo much fun. I'll spare the name of the drinks...i'll keep it PG haha.  Some of those drinks are GOOD,but don't have PG names, so i'll spare the little ones who might end up seeing this.  But all in all, it was an amazing trip to Namibia and i'll try and post some pics up when i get a chance.  We are going to be in S.Africa tomorrow morning, so i've been really busy with school and trying to type all of this out.  Sorry i dind't get it to everyone sooner.  I'm going on my SAFARI!!! and i'll have to let you all know how much fun i had.  I love you all and hope to hear from you soon.
